After LeBron James’ early exit at the NBA Playoff, he is bound to play not on the court, but on the silver screen, for the latest installment of The Space Jam to be released next month.
The four-time NBA champion surprised his fans with his decisions to change his iconic Jersey No. 23 to No. 6 starting next season.
The 36-year-old basketball superstar had worn his infamous Jersey No. 23 for the majority of his career, including his three years stay with the Los Angeles Lakers and with his stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
LeBron James is not the first player to do number switching. Before Kobe Bryant permanently landed on number 24, he was wearing jersey number 8 in his early years in NBA.
One of the fans’ speculations and theories as to why James had to change number is to separate his legacy from Michael Jordan, who originally made number 23 legendary because he led the Chicago Bulls to NBA Championship 6 times. Also, the first installment of the Space Jams was popularized by Jordan.
This is the first time that James had been eliminated during the first round of the NBA Playoffs. The defeat was inevitably all because James and Anthony Davis’ had suffered a huge injury that affected their performance. Their team general manager Rob Pelinka said that if James and Davis are healthy together, he believes that the Lakers can return to the summit.
