It remains to be seen whether Pakistan will open the inning with Salman Butt or whether Ahmed Shehzad will make a comeback into the side, but the sense is that Pakistan may not want to change a winning combination, apart from the injured couple of bowlers. Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya, on the other hand, justified the faith reposed in him by the management, and smashed a quickfire 81, as he looks good to get some more. The issue with him is that he does not enjoy the English conditions too much and a big inning could very easily be followed by another failure. Will walk into my team!> My personal pick will be Kumar Sangakkara, who, I think will battle away through the length of the entire inning and get to a reasonably high score. T.Dilshan is ravaging form, but he is like a scrip which has peaked and one cannot be sure of whether there are any more knocks of substance left in his armory. Accumulating runs and form well!> The other match has India taking on the West Indies, and if M.S.Dhoni’s statement is anything to go by, the number three slot should very soon be vacated for Suresh Raina. Yuvraj Singh, to me, looks like he can bat at number four, but I will be focussing my attention on Gautam Gambhir – apart from Raina – who has slowly brought back his appetite for runs.

West Indies, ever so reliant on Chris Gayle, also have the services of Andre Fletcher, who has the capability match Gayle shot for shot. Whether that converts itself into a long enough innings is a surmise, but India has this reputation of not being able to breach through a new-comer’s defences quickly enough!

Dwayne Bravo will walk into my team and remain there till after West Indies’s next game against South Africa. This is because West Indies have a break of five games before playing their next one; essential paving way for another all-rounder during that time.
