Ja Morant Suspended for 2 Games

The Memphis Grizzlies announced that they were suspending Ja Morant for two games after the player became the subject of an NBA investigation after his concerning behavior on Instagram Live.

In his Live video, he was seen showing off his gun. Although the Instagram Live video has been deleted, it has been screen recorded and screenshotted several times over, and shared on different social media platforms.

He had appeared to be recording from a strip club following his team’s loss to the Denver Nuggets on Friday evening. In that game, he scored 27 points and made 10 assists.

NBA spokesman Mike Bass said, “We are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating.”

The suspension means that Morant will miss the game against the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Lakers.

In the aftermath of the video, Morant released a statement through his agent. It said:

“I take full responsibility for my actions last night. I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis, and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down.”

“I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.”

Morant, who is an endorser for several big sports brands, received support from them, including Nike who said in a statement:

“We appreciate Ja’s accountability and that he is taking the time to get the help he needs. We support his prioritization of his well-being.”

In addition to the video, Morant is also the subject of an investigation that alleges he had assaulted a teenager in his neighborhood.
