It is unfortunate news, but two-time Kia MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo will not be in Bucks vs. Hawks Game 5 due to hyperextended left knee, the Bucks announced on Thursday. The Bucks forward injured his left knee during the third quarter of Game 4 for the Eastern Conference final against Hawks on Tuesday night.
The following day, the Bucks announced he had an MRI confirming his injury, which is hyperextended knee. This puts Antetokounmpo initially doubtful for Game 5, but the team has now confirmed that he will not be playing. The Bucks played before without Giannis and any of their major players, so the team possibly has a structure to still function at a high level.
Meanwhile, the Hawks is not without injury issues as well. The Atlanta teams guard, young star Trae Young was not in Game 4 due to a bone bruise sustained in Game 3. Another player, center Clint Capela, was also injured. His right eye ended up inflamed after taking an elbow in the face also during Game 3. As a result, both Young and Capela are in questionable status for Game 4 and Game 5.
Antetokounmpo has been doing well in the games in the postseason, averaging 28.2 points with 12.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists. This is the second year Antetokounmpo suffered injuries during the postseason. Last year, he sprained his ankle against Miami in Game 4. He wasnt there for the rest of the season, with Buck winning Game 4 but getting eliminated from the series in Game 5.
