Andy Murray says he’s ready to take reigning Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic in the decider in Melbourne no matter how long the battle goes for.
Djokovic won last year’s Open in a remarkable five-set epic against Rafael Nadal, while the Serbian also triumphed past Stanislas Wawrinka in this year’s fourth round in five hours showing his ability to last in long matches.
The decider could be another long battle and the Scot said he was ready for it, despite Djokovic easing past David Ferrer on Thursday in straight sets, while he squeezed past Federer 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-7 (2-7) 6-2 in an epic.
“I’m ready for the pain,” Murray said after knocking off the Swiss. “If it’s a painful match, it will mean it’s a good match.’’
Reflecting on his win over Federer, he added: “It’s always tough against him.
“When his back was against the wall at 6-5 in the fourth, he came up with some great shots. That’s what he always does. Murray
“I’ve been known for losing a lot of big matches, winning the Olympic Games was obviously a big help.’’
