On the other side, Venus’ sister, Serena has a 3-1 semi-finals record at Wimbledon and a 10-2 record at all Grand Slams. This, however, is Serena’s first Wimbledon semi-final appearance since her 2004 runner-up finish.

Since the 2003 Wimbledon, this is the first time Venus and Serena Williams have advanced to the event’s singles’ semi-finals, although this is their seventh Grand Slam event where both of them have graced the semi-finals. This might prove to be a Williams versus Williams match-up for the finals.

Other players gracing the 2008 Wimbledon semi-finals are Elena Dementieva and Zheng Jie.

Dementieva is the fourth different Russian woman to climb to the Wimbledon semi-finals following Anna Kournikova, Maria Sharapova, and Olga Morozova. This is her first Wimbledon semi-final appearance, and her 10th attempt in her career. She was a runner-up at Roland Garros and the U.S. Open in 2004, and this will be her fifth semi-finals feat.

Zheng Jie is now China’s first Grand Slam semi-finalist in singles, and the third female Asian to reach a final four of a major. She is the 14th unseeded ladies’ singles at Wimbledon semi-finals, and is aiming to be the first-ever unseeded finalist. Aside from this, she is also aiming to become the only fourth woman who is ranked out of the Top 100 to have reached the semi-finals of a major.
