Career

Anna Kournikova, the youngest tennis player who won at the 1996 Fed Cup, was 14 at the time. Kournikova is not only a tennis player but also one of the Top 10 Most Marketable Female Athletes.

Kournikova turned pro in October 1995. She made her Grand Slam main draw debut in 1996 where she made it all the way to the fourth round of the women’s singles category in the US Open. That year, she was also in the quarterfinals of the same tournament but for women’s doubles.

Kournikova has always done better in doubles than she did in singles. Her best finish in a grand slam singles event was in the semifinals of Wimbledon. As for women’s doubles, she made it to the finals of the 1999 French Open. That year, she also won the women’s doubles at the Australian Open. She would win the same event in 2002.

She decided to retire in 2003 after suffering from injuries for some time. She has been spending her time playing in exhibition matches and World Team Tennis. It is reported that she became an American citizen in 2010.
