Later this month, Dinara Safina will take the place of Serena Williams in her No. 1 ranking in the professional tennis world.
Safina will advance her way to the No. 1 rank just like her older brother, Marat Safin, who also rose as a former No. 1 during his career.
For the first time in Safina’s tennis career, she will move up to No. 1 in the April 20 rankings as stated on the WTA tour on Wednesday.
This event in her life will give birth to the first ever brother-sister duo, who skyrocketed to the top as the tennis worlds No. 1.
Safina considers it as a great honor to be able to climb up to the No. 1 ranking. She also mentioned that reaching such height has been in every girl’s dream who is also aspiring to play professional tennis just as she did. As being Marat Safin’s younger sister, Safina also considers it even more special because she will be able to share this triumph with his brother.
From the Russian tennis player, Maria Sharapova, Safina will be the next top player and the 19th woman to rank No. 1 at the WTA.
During the 2008 French Open, Safina was a runner to Ana Ivanovic and also a runner up to Williams at the 2009 Australian Open.
Safina have had four titles last year, thus, earning her award as the most improved player.
