After advancing with straight set wins in the quarterfinals on Thursday, sisters Serena Williams and Venus Williams are slated to face each other in the Dubai semifinals. Serena, the top seed breezed past eight-seed Ana Ivanovic in the quarterfinals with a score of 6-4, 6-4 while sister Venus defeated Elena Dementieva on her way to the semifinals.>
Serena had earlier won the Australian Open in January. She faced a tough opponent in Ivanovic who tried to pound the American player with hard hits and attacks which Williams admitted made her tired at the second set. However, she was able to recharge and was confident that she could take the set.
“I was feeling as bit tired at the start of the second set, but wasn’t too worried about her going 3-0 up as I knew I was just a break down. I knew I could pull it off.”
Venus on the other hand was leading in the third set and again took the second set after the opponent double-faulted in the seventh game.
Serena is excited at the thought of facing her older sister in the semis. We are both the best players on the tour right now. Obviously, we both are also playing our best tennis right now, which definitely makes our matches more exciting.
