Luis Suarez is at it once again. He has been accused of punching a Chilean player Gonzalo Jara in his face during a World Cup qualifier game.
Liverpool and national team Uruguay’s centre forward has a reputation of on field activities that tarnish his reputation. He has a history of diving to win penalties and free kicks in dangerous positions.
He has admitted to doing so against Stoke and on other occasions has been reprimanded by referees and his manager as well.
He is on eight yellow cards for Liverpool in the domestic season and was later booked in this international match as well for arguing with the referee for an entirely different foul.
Earlier, most of his cards were for either dissent or diving. Having slowly repaired his reputation he is once again in the forefront, this time for punching Jara.
Jara did not go to ground after the incident and continued playing the game. The incident concluded with no action taken by the referee but the players did argue about it.
This is not the first time Suarez has been in the middle of a violent act of biting on the shoulder of PSV Eindhoven midfielder Otman Bakkal’s shoulder. He was given a seven match ban for that offence and could be facing something similar as well.
In his first season for Liverpool he was given an eight match ban for supposedly racially abusing Patrice Evra of Manchester United.
Fifa still has to go over the entire situation and decide on the punishment for him, if any. Fifa said, “We are still collecting all the post-match reports, since the officials have got 24 hours to send them. Based on the mentioned reports, FIFA will proceed accordingly.”
Uruguay ultimately lost the game and is languishing in sixth spot of the qualifier group.
