Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes his side is on a “great run” after knocking off Champions League hopefuls Tottenham 3-2 on Sunday.
The Reds clinched their third league win in a row moved up to sixth place on the English Premier League table and within seven points of the Champions League places after the win.
Luis Suarez opened the scoring before Jan Vertonghen’s double put his side ahead, only for Stewart Downing and Steven Gerrard goals to secure the victory for the Anfield club.
“We’re on a great run and we knew this would be a severe test of our qualities and our character,” Rodgers said.
“They’re a team on great form and have been together for a few years. For us to get the three points was fantastic and I’m delighted for the players because they’ve worked ever so hard.
“It’s not important that we’re sixth. It’s just important that we continue to move – it was always going to be difficult early on.
“But you could see the mentality today. This was a real test and I think we had to show different characteristics to what we have in the last few weeks.
“We’ve been comfortable in a lot of games and been able to control them. But against a top side we were able to come through. We had to make some changes and once we did that we were good value.”
