Rumour has it that Manchester United’s prolific striker Wayne Rooney and manager Sir Alex Ferguson have fallen out. This is not the first time that such news has become the standout headline in the football world, and each time the issue is highlighted it seems to be graver.
Ferguson is regarded as one of the best managers and he has the reputation of making a few unpredictable decisions. One of the latest ones was dropping Rooney to bench in the recent loss at the hands of Real Madrid in the Champions League.
It is believed that the Red Devils boss has run out of patience with the inconsistency of his star forward and will probably en-cash on him sooner rather than later.
As the Manchester United team bus rolled into the ground before kick-off at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening everyone except a few senior players were unaware that Rooney was going to be relegated to the bench.
Rooney on the bench of such an important fixture was a bombshell dropped on fans and others. Sir Alex’s benching of Rooney for United’s biggest game of the season thus far, proves that the relationship between the player and the manager has worn out over the past few seasons.
Reports suggest that Manchester United manager wants to sell Rooney as so as he can as he has fallen out of favour and don the pecking order at Old Trafford with the arrival of Robin van Persie.
It is known that once Sir Alex decides that a player’s time has come to an end he does whatever he wants to cut the stint short as soon as possible however high profile the player may be. Examples of this are ex-United players Roy Keane, Jaap Stam, Ruud van Nistelrooy, and David Beckham to name a few.
As age is not on his side, Rooney knows his next contract could be his last and he is prepared to wait for it as long as he can as he has shown the desire and love for the club that he is at. But it seem that his manager has made up his mind as well as the scene is set for another epic battle between manager and player.
