Chelsea beat Arsenal 2-1 after a very competitive second half of football with both teams displaying high quality football.
Arsenal were completely lost in the first half and deserved to be trailing by 3-4 goals but Chelsea squandered a few chances to the respite of Wenger.
Juan Mata scored an early goal for Chelsea after being put through by Cesar Azpilicueta. Arsene Wenger would consider his team a little unlucky after a player of his was fouled but the referee decided to let the game go on deeming the tackle on him as a clean one but relays showed otherwise.
Minutes later Frank Lampard hammered in a penalty as Wojciech Szczesny brought down Ramires Santos in the penalty box. Replays showed that the call was controversial as Ramires seed to have slipped before contact from the Arsenal shot stopper. Luckily Szczesny was shown only a yellow and not a red.
Theo Walcott continued his fine form with a wonderful goal after Santi Cazorla put the English speedster through who slots that home easily. Oliver Giourd missed couple to early chances to put his team in the led but his fishing was not up to the mark.
Demba Ba came on as a late substitute replacing Fernando Torres and immediately had a chance to make it three for the home side but was unable to do so. Torres’s form has dipped once again as he Spaniard had another horrid game. Rafa Benitez surprised everyone with starting Torres over Ba.
Chelsea will play Reading in their next game, while Arsenal will play West Ham United in midweek followed by a high confidence Liverpool game at the end of the month.
