Paris Saint-Germain manager Carlo Ancelotti has expressed his delight at his side’s performance after they defeated FC Porto 2-1 on matchday six of the UEFA Champions League to clinch top spot in Group A.

The Parisians took a first-half lead through Thiago Silva before Jackson Martinez levelled for the Portuguese side prior to the break. However, a woeful error from Porto keeper Helton cost his side when Ezequiel Lavezzi’s shot crept in at the near post.

The result, which clinched top spot, delighted Ancelotti who was happy to see his side hit back after critics had suggested they wouldn’t go far in the competition.

“Some people may have assessed this team too early, but this is a team that has quality,” the Italian said.

“When you want to build something important, you cannot reach your target immediately. You must be a little patient.

“For the moment, our performances are not good in the league, but we still have time to improve.”

Ancelotti said his side’s performance in the win was exactly what he wanted to see.

“It was a good match, a good reaction from the team (following their Ligue 1 loss to Nice),” he said.

“We showed our style, character and courage. We played against a team with good organisation and we controlled the game.”
