Allegri: Milan Got Lucky Against Juve

AC Milan manager Max Allegri has conceded his side were lucky to win the decisive penalty in their 1-0 victory over champions Juventus in Italy’s Serie A on Sunday.

AC Milan manager Max Allegri has conceded his side were lucky to win the decisive penalty in their 1-0 victory over champions Juventus in Italy’s Serie A on Sunday.

Milan moved up to 10th on the table after Robinho netted the only goal of the game on 31 minutes following Mauricio Isla’s handball in the box, which appeared a harsh decision. Allegri agreed it seemed lucky.

“From the touchline it really did seem like a spot kick, but watching the replays it should not have been given,” Allegri told Sky Sport Italia.

However, the Milan boss was full of praise for his players, who worked hard to deny Juve, who slumped to their second loss this season after going through last term unbeaten.

“This game was a real battle by the players. We only allowed Juventus one shot on target, while there were four or five great scoring opportunities for us,” Allegri said.

“I think the team did its absolute best against a Juve side that is doing great things. It’s wonderful that we managed to avoid basically giving Juventus any chances at all. We defended in a very organised manner and the lads deserve so much credit for this. We worked well as a unit, which is a positive sign.”

Meanwhile, Juve assistant manager Angelo Alessio said he felt the penalty incident was a turning point as Milan defended resolutely after they got their goal.

“I don’t know what would have happened if we had won here with a penalty like that. In any case we’ll keep soldiering on, knowing that we must play in a different way to win,” he said.
