Swansea were successfully opposed against Reading before the international break and I’m taking on the Welsh club again on Saturday.
Michael Laudrup’s new side started the season in scintillating fashion, thumping QPR 5-0 at Loftus Road and following that up with a 3-0 home win over West Ham.
However, it is just two points from their subsequent five matches and they were lucky to draw 2-2 with the Royals a fortnight ago.
Having trailed 2-0 late on, goals from Michu and Wayne Routledge gave Swansea a share of the spoils but it means they have conceded at least twice in each of those five winless matches and Wigan will pose a threat at the Liberty Stadium this weekend.
Swansea were just even money to get the better of Reading and they can be taken on at a similar price against the Latics. Robert Martinez’s side are a cut above the Berkshire club however and were unlucky not to beat high-flying Everton last time out.
Pegged back on home soil by a late Leighton Baines penalty, Wigan actually have a terrific recent record on their travels in the top flight and it is five wins in their previous ten Premier League matches outside the DW Stadium.
Victories at Anfield and The Emirates in spring went a long way to securing Wigan’s status last season and they have already triumphed at Southampton this term.
Defeat at Old Trafford and a narrow loss at Sunderland were no disgrace and surely Wigan will score at least once against a Swansea team short on confidence defensively.
I see there being goals in South Wales but the visitors should be good for at least a point knowing that a win would take them level in the table with their hosts.
