Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi insists becoming the Argentina national team captain has not changed him.
The Barcelona superstar, who is known for his humble nature, was given the Argentine captaincy by Alejandro Sabella last year and he will lead the team in their crucial upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Chile.
“Wearing the captain’s armband has not changed me. I still do the same things with my team-mates,” Messi told Fox Sports Radio.
He added: “I lived through some sad times with the results. Now that we are winning, everything gets easier.
“I always really enjoy coming to play with Argentina. We are growing as a team, and we are still becoming stronger as a group.”
Argentina are currently top of 2014 World Cup qualifying in Conmebol, with 14 points from seven games, sitting ahead of Colombia and Ecuador who are both a further point back.
