Club Deportivo Universidad Católica del Ecuador
Currently playing in the top division, Primera A of the Ecuadorian football league, Club Deportivo Universidad Catolica del Ecuador is a professional football club based in Quito, Ecuador. Founded as a university football team, for Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Ecuador, they team won its first championship, an inter-university affair, in 1962. They became a professional football club in 1963, under Liga Deportica de la Universidad Catolica.
In their quest to compete professionally, they beat Club Gladiador, in 1965 and won their first professional title in the same year, the 12th Interandean Professional Championship. Finishing as runner-up in the Primera A, in 1972 and 1979, the team went on to participate in the Copa Libertadores in 1974 and 1980. They had a brief stint in the Primera B in 1993, and then once again in 1998, to come back into the Primera A in 2008. They won the Primera B championship two times in 1990 and 2007.
