Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has downplayed reports linking the Gunners with former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba who is allegedly unhappy in China.

The Ivorian striker left the Blues for Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenhua midway through this year but has reportedly been in the midst of a power struggle and is allegedly keen to leave, leading the links with all sorts of clubs including Real Madrid, Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, Drogba came out publicly this week and said he wants to stay in Shanghai, alongside Nicolas Anelka, despite the reported issues.

Subsequently, Wenger told reporters that the club weren’t in for the 2011-12 Uefa Champions League final hero.

“At the moment no. In my opinion he is not free. He has just left England. I don’t know about the situation because he came out with a completely different statement,” Wenger said.

“You hear he might go to Real Madrid - but then he says ‘I am staying in China’. Is it just because he wants to be paid off? I don’t know.”
