2012/13 Premier League Top Scorer Betting Preview
Article info

Pretty difficult to ignore the claims of the leading strikers at the two teams most likely to compete for the Premier league title this season, Manchester’s City and United, but the goals are almost certain to be shared around at both clubs and the value lies elsewhere.

With Robin van Persie’s imminent arrival at Old Trafford it is hard to imagine the Dutchman and new strike partner Wayne Rooney not cutting into each others value in this particular market and, to a lesser extent, the situation is replicated at Eastlands.

Sergio Aguero, while managing a terrific 23 Premier League goals during his first season in England, now has a seemingly focused Carlos Tevez for competition up front while Mario Balotelli has remained at the current champions, too.

Aguero is Mancini’s first choice forward, a saver on “Kun” is advised, but the Argentine might find it difficult to replicate his debut campaign and I’m looking further down the lists.

Luis Suarez arrived at Anfield in January 2011 and immediately won over the Liverpool faithful with a stirring start to his career on Merseyside.

It all went horribly wrong for the Uruguayan last term, a lengthy ban for racially abusing Patrice Evra contributing to a return of only 11 league goals, but he is primed to bounce back and perhaps we need reminding of just how prolific Suarez was in Holland.

An incredible 64 Eredivisie goals in 77 matches for Ajax before his big-money move to England’s top flight shows Suarez knows exactly where the target is and his hat-trick at Carrow Road in April was simply superb.

At 25 years old, Suarez should be just about reaching his peak and the recent signing of a new long-term contract bodes well for the upcoming season under new boss Brendan Rodgers.

At similar prices to Balotelli and Tevez, around the 17.0 mark, Suarez appeals as a likely contender and if Liverpool can hit the ground running then their leading man could enjoy a very productive season indeed.

2pts Back Luis Suarez Top Premier League Scorer @ 17.0 (Ladbrokes, Will Hill)
1pt Back Sergio Aguero Top Premier League Scorer @ 9.0 (totesport, Betfred)
