Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted his side are on the verge of completing a £15 million deal to sign Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen.
The 22-year-old was in the directors’ box as Liverpool eased past Belarussian club Gomel in the third qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday.
Rodgers, who managed Allen at Swansea, said that was a clear sign a deal for the Team GB star wasn’t far away.
“It’s obviously imminent. If he is up here, it is a sign there has been good communication with Swansea and hopefully over the next 24 hours we can conclude it,” Rodgers said.
The Reds re-signed striker Luis Suarez this week, while they’ve previously added Italian talent Fabio Borini to their squad this off-season, and he scored in Thursday’s win.
