Sneijder: Dutch Must Let Egos Go

Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder has called for unity and for the Netherlands team to let their egos go after a major fallout following their opening 1-0 loss to Denmark at the 2012 European Championships.

Sneijder’s men face the mighty Germany on Wednesday in a game which could leave the 2010 World Cup runners-up eliminated for the 2012 event.

The fallout from their opening defeat to the Danes has been major, with coach Bert van Marwijk criticised and calls for his head, while there has been reports that the likes of Rafael van der Vaart and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar are unhappy they’re not starting.

However, the Inter Milan man called for calm, insisting the team needs to put aside egos and focus on the task at hand.

“It is time we let these pathetic egos go. If somebody is creating a mess, I will stand up against them now,” Sneijder said.

“We don’t need a psychologist with the Dutch team, we are grown-up men. The ones who have a problem with other players or the manager should tell them face-to-face. That is the only psychology we need.

“We have to stop living on little islands. We must all go for the same goal, be united or face the consequences.”
