Juventus proved to everybody they could be genuine title candidates this season with a 2-0 win over AC Milan in Sunday’s late kick-off with Claudio Marchisio scoring both goals late on. Elsewhere, Udinese continued their fine early season run post-Alexis Sanchez, beating Bologna 2-0, while Napoli stunned Inter 3-0 on Saturday. AS Roma are the big movers, up to sixth after their win over Atalanta.

Inter’s woeful early season form conitnued with a bad 3-0 home defeat to Napoli, which leaves new boss Claudio Ranieri scratching his head. Bologna and Cesena remain winless, although the latter got off the mark with a 0-0 draw against Chievo Verona. Champions AC Milan are down in 15th after their defeat to the Old Lady.

Champions Barcelona went top with a narrow win at Gijon, while Real Madrid showed their attacking prowess with a 4-0 victory at Espanyol, with Gonzalo Higuain hitting a hat-trick. Joseba Llorente was the hero as Athletic Bilbao finally got their first win of the season, 2-1 over Real Sociedad. Gijon were narrowly beaten by Barcelona but remain bottom and with only one point. Racing Santander remain winless after a 1-1 draw with newly promoted Rayo Vallecano who are doing okay in 14th.

Manchester City put aside their midweek dramas involving Carlos Tevez to sweep past Blackburn Rovers 4-0 thanks to four second-half goals. Champions Manchester United also only scored in the second-half as they defeated Norwich City 2-0 at Old Trafford, although their cavalier approach is making them appear vulnerable.
