Italian powerhouse Juventus have signed star Spanish international midfielder Xabi Alonso from Premiership giants Liverpool, according to a report by the Italian sports Il Corriere Dello Sport.
The Italian sports has broken the ice on a transfer news that was always mooted to crop up at one point or in the other this summer. Juventus have been lining themselves for the highly rated former Real Sociedad defensive midfielder for months and Liverpool too have been eager to offload the player whom the Reds gaffer Rafael Benitez doesn’t want.
According to Il Corriere Dello Sport, Juventus shall pay Liverpool 18 million euros as transfer fee and the player shall join the Spanish club this summer immediately after the Euro 2008 finals pull out their tent at the end of this month. Xabi Alonso is regarded as one of the best defensive players in world football and Juventus would certainly be boosted by his arrival in Turin.
