Contrary to what most people may think, David Beckham is not exactly the highest paid football player in the world. In fact, for the rest of the world, he’s just an average professional football player – at least in terms of pay.
Cristiano Ronaldo sits at the top spot earning approximately $17.06 million yearly while playing for Real Madrid. Ronaldo is also the team captain of Portugal’s national team, and is known to be the most expensive player in all of the history of football.
Coming in second is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, earning approximately $15.7 million for 2009-2010 while playing for Barcelona as well as Sweden’s national team. Next is Lionel Messi, earning approximately $13.74 million a year. At 22 years of age, Messi is known as the youngest player to ever make it to the top 20 list of top paid football players.
The rest of the players are ranked as follows: #4 – Samuel Eto’o #5 – Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite (Kaka) #6 – Karim Benzema #7 – Carlos Tevez #8 – John Terry #9 – Frank Lampard and #10 – Thierry Henry
As it is, David Beckham did not even make it to the list of the Top 10 highest paid football players for this year. Perhaps some other year, he will be. But for this year, he has not made the cut.
