Spanish giants and European powerhouse Real Madrid are reported to be closing on a double swoop on Premier League club Liverpool.
Real Madrid Director-general has been quoted as saying that they are close to landing the Spanish internationals Xabi Alonso and Alvaro Arbeloa from Liverpool this summer. Madrid president Florentino Perez is a long time admirer of Alonso and in recent days Arbeloa too has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu in the summer; it was even alleged that his agent was in Madrid this week to discuss a deal.
AS quoted Valdano as saying:
“We have possibilities there but I don’t want to say anything that will make the negotiation more difficult. We will wait a reasonable amount of time.
“The lad (Arbeloa) only has a year left on his contract with Liverpool and this gives us more possibilities. He can play in two or three positions and this versatility is good. He is another option to evaluate.”
