Penalty

In the game of ice hockey, a penalty is a very necessary and common part in a hockey game. A penalty is punishment for poor behavior during a game of hockey, which is a very violent story as it is. In most cases, penalties are called out by a referee but a linesman can call some penalties as well.

There are many types of penalties out there, from intent to injure penalties to misconduct or game misconduct penalties. Depending on the type of penalty that has been committed, there are different solutions to the problem. Sometimes a penalty shot is awarded and other times the offending members of the team spend time in the penalty box, which harms the team by having them shorthanded at times throughout the game.

A penalty shot is only tended to by the goalie and time in the penalty box is finished with the player immediately returning to the ice and joining the play. Sometimes a penalty that is severe enough in the college venue can result in the player being disqualified from the game in general, which is never a good thing. Suspension may also be punishment for a penalty as well.
