At the time it was conceived, the team was known as the Bann Straubing before it was renamed to TSV Straubing in 1947, then it was renamed once more to EHC Straubing in 1981, before it became the Straubing Tigers in 2002.

The team’s club color is blue and white, and is currently being managed by Gabi Sennebogen. The team’s head coach is Dean Fedorchuk, and is led by team captain Michael Bakos.

Over the years, the team has seen changes such as its promotion to the DEL sometime in 2006. Earlier during the said year, the team was the division champions in the second division as well as previously the league champs in 1975.
