Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod is a professional ice hockey club based in Nizhny in Nizhny, Novgorod in Russia. As of 2009, the team is a member of the Chernyshev Division of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Team colors for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod are Blue, White and Red. They have been nicknamed ‘Torpedo’ and their logo depicts a stylized stag with the team’s name.

The ice hockey club was founded in 1947. And from 1947 to 1991, the club was called the Torpedo Gorki. It was only in 1991 that they settled with the name Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. The Trade Union Sports Palace serves as home ice for the team. It has an a capacity to seat 5,500 people.

When it was founded, the team was a member of the USSR Championships. This lasted from 1947 to 1991. While with the USSR Championships, the finished with a silver win during the 1961 games. From 1991 onwards, they have become members of numerous leagues including the International Hockey League, the Russian Supreme League, the Russian Hockey League, and The Russian Superleague. They are also one of the initial 24 teams to make up the KHL. They are one of the five Russian teams in the Chernyshev Division of the KHL.

Notable Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod alumni who have moved on to North America’s National Hockey League (NHL) include Evgeny Namestnikov, Pavel Torgayev, Alexei Tezikov, and Artem Chubarov.
