Severstal Cherepovets is a professional team from Cherepovets, Vologda in Russia. It was founded in 1956 and is now a member of the Bobrov division of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The team was originally named Storitel Cherepovets. The name was changed to Metallurg, Cherepovets in 1959 before settling into its current name (Severstal Cherepovets) in 1994. The team is named after their sponsor, the Severstal Steel Company. The ‘Ice Palace’, with a capacity of 6,000, serves as home ice for the Severstal Cherepovets. Team colors include Black, Yellow, and Orange.
Form its foundation in 1956 to 1982, Severstal Cherepovets played in the USSR Championships. From 1982 to the 1989 season, the team played in the Soviet Class A2. They returned to the USSR Championships from 1989 to 1991. They joined the International Hockey League from 1992 to 1996 and the Russian Hockey League from 1996 to 1999. In 2001, they became a part o the Russian Superleague and continued to stay with the league when it was converted into the KHL
The Severstal Cherepovets was the champions of the Pajuhalti Cup twice, once in 2000 and again in 2006. They were also won a bronze and silver medal at the Russian Superleague. They won the Bronze in 2001 and the Silver in 2003.
As of 2009, Sergey Shchukin serves as the main goalkeeper for the team. He is substituted by Chernyaev Ivan and Peretyagin Denis. Defenders include Poor Dimitri, Schelkine Dimitry, and Nikolai Balasahov. Strikers include Courage Paul, Tikhonov Anton, Dimitry Orlov and Eduard Baklanov.
