Mikael Backlund is a Swedish center on the Calgary Flames.
Backlund was drafted 24th overall by the Flames in 2007, after spending the season playing with Vasteras HK. He spent two more years in Sweden before coming to North America in 2008. He made his NHL debut with the Flames in 2009, and played 23 games with Calgary the following year. While he had just one goal and 10 points in those games, he is still one of the most highly regarded prospects in the Flames’ organization.
Backlund won two silver medals at the 2008 and 2009 World Juniors, as well as a bronze in 2010.
