Ryan McDonagh is an American defenseman on the New York Rangers.
McDonagh was drafted 12th overall by the Montreal Canadiens after winning the Mr. Hockey award in Minnesota in 2007. He went on to play college hockey at the University of Wisconsin, where he played three seasons, accumulating 14 goals and 46 points and 166 penalty minutes. During the 2009 offseason, his rights were traded to New York in the deal that sent Scott Gomez to the Canadiens. In 2010, he decided to forego his senior year at Wisconsin and join the Rangers, signing an entry level deal and joining the host of other young Ranger blueliners.
