Brett Lebda is an American defenseman on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Lebda played college hockey at Notre Dame, where in his freshman season he set a school record with 109 PIM, while leading all defensemen in scoring. He played for the 2002 US Junior National Team. He received a tryout with the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate, Grand Rapids Griffins and spent three seasons there.
In 2005, Lebda made his NHL debut and scored his first NHL goal on October 5. He played the next five seasons with the Wings, winning the Stanley Cup in 2008, and making the Finals again in 2009. During the 2010 offseason, with speculation surrounding the future of Tomas Kaberle in Toronto, Lebda was added to the Leafs as a depth UFA signing, and should provide a solid veteran presence to the already strong defensive corps.
