Johan Davidsson
Johan Davidsson is a Swedish center on HV71.
Davidsson was drafted by Anaheim 28th overall in 1994, while playing with HV71. He joined HV71 in 1993, and spent 5 seasons with the club, scoring 39 points in his final season in the Elitserien. He then went to Finland and won an SM-liiga championship, scoring 40 points with HIFK. He joined Anaheim in 1998, scoring 8 points in 64 games, but was traded to the New York Islanders near the end of the ’99-00 season. He returned to Finland in 2000, where he scored 29 points with the Espoo Blues. He returned to HV71 in 2001, and has been one of their best players ever since. He has scored over 35 points every year, and reached the 50 point plateau for the first time in 2008-09. He is recognized as one of the classiest players in the league, and has won the Elitserien’s equivalent of the Lady Byng Trophy twice. He won the league MVP in 2009, as well as a silver medal with HV71.
Davidsson has played for Sweden many times at a number of international competitions. He won 2 silver medals at the 2003 and 2004 World Championships, and won a bronze medal in 2002. He was the tournament’s leading scorer in 2007, notching 14 points.
