Roman Hamrlik
Roman Hamrlik is a Czech defenseman on the Montreal Canadiens.
Hamrlik was originally drafted 1st overall in 1992 by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has been one of the top offensive defensemen in the NHL for the past 16 seasons, with 142 goals and 564 points in 1157 NHL games. He spent 6 seasons with the Lightning, recording his best season in 1995-96, finishing with 49 assists and 65 points, as well as 103 penalty minutes. In 1997, he was traded to Edmonton, where he played three seasons before being dealt to the New York Islanders in 2000. Hamrlik played with the Islanders until the lockout in 2004, when he returned to the Czech Republic to play for a season. He returned to the NHL with the Calgary Flames for two seasons, but signed a 4 year deal with the Canadiens in 2007.
Hamrlik has played for the Czech Republic at 2 Winter Olympic, 2 World Cups and 2 World Championships, winning a gold medal at the ’98 Games in Nagano.
