Tom Preissing

Tom Preissing is an American defenseman on Barys Astana.

Preissing was undrafted, after playing college hockey at Colorado College. He was signed by San Jose, due to his offensive skill as a defenseman. He played well his rookie season, but after the lockout, he developed into one of the top offensive defensemen in the league, finishing the season with 43 points. He was traded to Ottawa in 2006, where he again finished with more than 30 assists. He signed with LA in 2007. Preissing had 24 points with the Kings in 2007-08, but played in only 22 games the following season, finishing with only 3 goals and 7 points. In 2009, he was part of the trade that sent veteran winger Ryan Smyth from Colorado to Los Angeles. He played just 4 games with the Avalanche, spending most of the year in the AHL. He signed with Barys Astana in 2010, but missed most of the year with an injury.
