Aaron Ward is a Canadian defenseman on the Carolina Hurricanes.

Ward was drafted 5th overall in 1991, but by the time he enter the NHL, he was a member of the Detroit Red Wings. Ward won two Stanley Cups with the Wings, in ’97 and ’98. He was traded to Carolina in 2001, where he won another Stanley Cup in 2002. He played 4 seasons with the Hurricanes, setting career highs with 19 assists and 25 points in 2005-06. He signed with the New York Rangers in 2006-07, but played only 60 games before being traded to Boston at the trade deadline. In two seasons with the Bruins, Ward appeared in 130 games, scoring 23 points. He recorded a career high +16 rating as a member of the top defensive unit in the league. He was traded back to Carolina in 2009 for Patrick Eaves and a draft pick in 2010. He played 60 games with the Hurricanes, scoring 11 points and recording the 2nd lowest +/- rating of his career at -17. As Carolina was mired in the bottom of the standings, Ward was dealt to the Ducks at the 2010 trade deadline.
