Shane Hnidy is a Canadian defenseman on the Minnesota Wild.

Hnidy has been an NHL journeyman since being drafted in 1994 by Buffalo. He did not join the NHL until 2000, by which point he had been traded to Ottawa. He spent 4 seasons in Ottawa before spending seasons with Nashville, Atlanta and Anaheim. His best season was in his second season with Atlanta in 2006-07, when he scored 12 points, although he did record a career high 130 penalty minutes in Ottawa during the 2002-03 season. He was traded to Boston in 2007. Hnidy spent most of two seasons in Boston, scoring 12 points and recording 45 penalty minutes in 2008-09, as the Bruins finished with the top record in the Eastern Conference. In 2009, he was signed by the Wild and made their starting roster for the 2009-10 season.
