Paul Martin
Paul Martin is an American defenseman on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Martin was drafted in 2000 by New Jersey, and went on to play college hockey at the University of Minnesota, where he won back to back National Championships in 2002 and 2003. He joined the Devils in 2003, and was a consistent member of the club’s permanent roster for some time. His best season was in 2005-06, when he set career highs with 32 assists and 37 points. He had back to back 30+ point seasons in '07-08 and '08-09, but suffered an injury in 2009 and was only able to play 22 games for the Devils in '09-10. With his contract set to expire, and the Devils looking to tie up their cap space in Ilya Kovalchuk, Martin was allowed to walk as an unrestricted free agent, and signed with Pittsburgh shortly after free agency opened.
Martin played for Team USA at the 2008 World Championships.
