Mark Eaton
Mark Eaton is an American defenseman on the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Eaton was undrafted after playing his college hockey at the University of Notre Dame. He signed with Philadelphia in 1998, and joined the Flyers for 27 games in 2000-01. He was traded to Nashville in 2001, and spent the next four seasons with the Predators. He was signed by Pittsburgh in 2006. He was plagued by a number of different injuries after joining the Penguins, and played only 71 games in the next two seasons. In 2008-09, he played 68 games, had 9 points and continued to score into the playoffs, helping the Penguins win the Stanley Cup. The following season, he played 79 games, had 16 points and a +5 rating, and again helped the Pens reach the playoffs, where they were eliminated by Montreal. As an unrestricted free agent veteran defenseman with 3 consecutive competitive playoff runs under his belt, Eaton's services were in high demand when free agency opened in 2010, and he was signed to a two year deal with the New York Islanders. He will be expected to help provide a stable defensive corps that the Isles hope will allow their young forwards to begin to carry the load a little bit.
Eaton played for Team USA at the 2001 and 2001 World Championships.
