Jose Theodore is a Canadian goalie on the Washington Capitals.

Theodore was one of the most highly regarded young goalies in the NHL when he broke into the league with the Montreal Canadiens. He was drafted in 1994, and made his NHL debut in 1995. He split time between the AHL and the NHL over the next few seasons, finally making the team as the starter in 2000-01, when he played 59 games. In 2001-02, he had his best season ever, winning 30 of 67 starts with a 2.11 GAA and .931 save percentage. He won the Vezina trophy as the best goalie in the league, as well as the Hart trophy as league MVP. He led the Canadiens to the second round of the playoffs. He had another strong season in 2003-04, winning 33 games with a 2.27 GAA. During the lockout, he played with Djurgardens IF of the Swedish Elitserien, and returned to Montreal for the 2005-06 season. He was traded to Colorado at the trade deadline, and spent the next two seasons with the Avs. He signed with Washington in the 2008 offseason.

Theodore won gold medals with Team Canada at the 1996 World Junior Championships and the 2004 World Cup, as well as playing at the 2001 World Championships.
