Marian Gaborik is a Slovak right winger on the New York Rangers.
Gaborik was drafted by Minnesota with the 3rd overall pick in 2000. Gaborik scored 36 points in his rookie season. The next season, he set then-career highs with 37 assists and 67 points. In 2002-03, he helped the Wild reach the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, with 30 goals and 65 points. The next few seasons, Gaborik continued to perform well, but his overall production was hampered by contract disputes and a number of injuries. In 2006-07, he scored 57 points despite playing in only 48 games. Last season, he broke the 40 goal plateau, finishing with 42 goals and 83 points. In 2008-09, Gaborik was the subject of much conversation and speculation, as it was unclear whether or not he was willing to re-sign with the Wild when his contract expired at season’s end. Adding to the mystery was the fact that Gaborik played only 17 games due to injury. He still managed to score 13 goals and 23 points. When the offseason came around, talks between Gaborik and the Wild fell apart, and he ended up signing with the New York Rangers. He signed a five year deal that will pay him about $37.5 million.
Gaborik played for Slovakia at the 2001,2004, 2005 and 2007 World Championships. He played in the 2004 World Cup and the 2006 Winter Olympics as well.
