Brent Sopel is a Canadian defenseman on the Atlanta Thrashers.

Sopel was drafted by Vancouver in 1995 and joined the team in 1999. Over the next five seasons, Sopel developed into a solid offensive defenseman, scoring ten goals and 42 points in 2003-04. He moved to the New York Islanders in 2005, and was traded to Los Angeles in 2006. He returned to Vancouver for the end of the 2007 season, but signed with Chicago at the beginning of the 2007-08 season. He scored 20 points for the Blackhawks in 2007-08, but saw his playing time diminish over the next two years as young players like Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook took on larger roles. He played well for the Blackhawks in the 2010 playoffs, helping them win the Stanley Cup, but was traded to Atlanta in the 2010 offseason.
