Matt Niskanen

Matt Niskanen is an American defenseman on the Dallas Stars.

Niskanen was drafted in 2005 by Dallas, but opted to play his freshman and sophomore years at the University of Minnesota Duluth. In 2006-07, he joined the Iowa Stars of the AHL. He earned a spot on the permanent roster at the 2007 tryouts in Dallas, and played 78 games in his rookie season. He finished with 26 points and an impressive +22 rating, good enough for second on the team. He is currently under contract with the Stars through the 2010 season.
