Girts Ankipans
Girts Ankipans is a Latvian left winger on Dinamo Riga.
Like most of his teammates, Ankipans has played most of his career in lesser-known leagues in Latvia, Germany and Belarus. He had a 43-goal, 78 point season in 1992-93 with HK Essamika Ogre, and had a career year with Timmendorfer Strand in the German Third league during the 2000-01 season. He put up 51 goals and 90 assists for a career high 141 points that season, before returning to Latvia in 2003. In 2005-06, he put up 45 points with HK Riga 2000, and joined Dinamo Riga when the club joined the KHL in 2008. He had 7 goals and 14 points in his first season of play in the KHL, but increased his production to 8 goals and 23 points the following season.
Ankipans played for Latvia at the 2006 and 2010 Olympic Games.
