Two of the high profile teams will be in action in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday as Mumbai Indians take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bangalore. With only a handful of matches remaining for each side, both would be keen to avoid any hiccups at this stage.
Mumbai Indians are relatively better placed with 16 points from 13 matches. After losing to RCB, they recovered well to trounce Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday by 27 runs, enabling them to maintain their third spot.
Rohit Sharma commandeered the batting effort with an unbeaten century while Herschelle Gibbs returned to the team with a half-century. The batsmen have plenty of firepower in them though have struggled at times.
They will be hoping that Kieron Pollard comes good with the bat to secure a much-needed win. The bowlers have usually done just enough to keep the runs in check and with the likes of Lasith Malinga still being threatening, wickets could just be round the corner.
The challenge though will be outdoing Chris Gayle who blasted 82 off just 59 balls in the two teams’ last meet. Royal Challengers Bangalore won their game after that as well, against Pune Warriors, to take them to 15 points and give some breathing space over the other teams below them on the points table.
Gayle has been in tremendous form this season while Tillakaratne Dilshan has also had his fair share of successes. AB de Villiers’ presence in the middle-order is pivotal. The bowlers have gradually started to do well, with Muttiah Muralitharan chipping away wickets for economical spells.
Vinay Kumar’s wicket-taking ability has also attracted much attention as they will be eyeing a repeat of their win against Mumbai Indians.
The match will be played in Bangalore where tremendous support can be expected for the home side having won three matches in a row.
