When the New Zealand Women’s cricket team won the World Cup in 2000, Haidee Tiffen had performed a crucial role by taking 8 wickets and scoring 187 runs. Now, Tiffen, the captain of this team, is of the opinion that the current squad has the potential to win the upcoming World Cup.
Tiffen’s remarks
Tiffen revealed that the 2000 World Cup triumph is very special for her and close to her heart. During that tournament, New Zealand Women was an extremely talented team and it was a benefit to be part of it. She feels that the current squad has the ability to claim the World Cup again. She added that it was unjust and tough to compare the New Zealand team in 2000 and 2009. In 2000, there were world class players like Kathryn Ramel, Katrina Keenan, Anna Smith, Rebecca Rolls and Catherine Campbell. At present, there are outstanding players like Aimee Mason, Beth McNeill, Suzie Bates, Nicola Browne and Amy Satterthwaite. Tiffen disclosed that it was her dream to win the World Cup again. However, to fulfill this dream, there was a necessity of commitment and hard work. In the previous couple of years, all members of the team have contributed these two attributes.
In the recent Rose Bowl series, New Zealand was leading by 2-0 against Australia before drawing the series 2-2. Regarding this experience, Tiffen commented that it was a good chance to play against the defending champions just before the actual championship and to learn to be more consistent.
