Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to bat first. The opening pair of Vusi Sibanda and Hamilton Masakadza created a partnership of 44 runs in 8 overs. In the ninth over, Masakadza was trapped leg before wicket by Nehemiah Odhiambo for 23. This brought Stuart Matsikenyeri to the crease. In the 20th over, Sibanda was run out on a personal score of 41 in 56 deliveries including 1 sixer and 3 boundaries. Keith Dabengwa made a useful contribution of 25 runs in 29 balls and he returned to the pavilion in the 28th over, when the team’s total had reached 141. The crucial partnership
Waller and Matisikenyeri collaborated in a partnership that lasted for 14 overs and produced 105 runs. This fourth-wicket stand gave the innings a robust look. The approach of Waller was very positive and he needed just 46 balls to complete his maiden half century. There was a plethora of loose deliveries from the Kenyan bowlers and both the batsman took full advantage of this condition. It appeared that Matsikenyeri would hit his first One day century, but Collins Obuya struck a lethal blow by trapping him leg before wicket. He walked back to the pavilion after having scored 90 runs in 95 deliveries and this knock included 1 sixer and 8 fours. He was dismissed in the 42nd over, when the scoreboard read 246. In the 45th over, Waller was caught off the bowling of Jimmy Kamande for 63 off 54 balls. He had smashed 8 boundaries.
The onslaught
Afterwards, Elton Chigumbura took complete charge of the innings. He displayed a form that was identical to the previous match when he had clobbered 79 runs in 38 deliveries. In this match, he was at the crease for 9 overs and during these 104 runs were scored. He faced 29 balls and reaped 68 runs. This knock comprised of 3 sixers and 10 fours.
