The Spirits of St. Louis existed for two seasons 1974-75 and 1975-76. The colors of the team were Burnt Orange, Silver and Black. The home arena of the team was the St. Louis arena also called as the Checkerdrome which had a capacity of 18000. During the 1974-75 season the coach of this team was Bob MacKinnon while for the season 1975-76 there were two coaches Joe Mullaney and Rod Thorn.

During the summer of 1974 the owners of the team Carolina Cougars sold the franchise to many businessmen in New York and in this way the team the Spirits of St. Louis was born. Some players from the original team like Steve
