The San Miguel Beermen 1975 san miguel beermen is a professional basketball team which is a member of the Philippine Basketball Association. This team is a member of this league since its inception in the year 1975. It also holds most of its titles which are around 18 of them till date.

The franchise of this team is owned exclusively by the San Miguel Brewery, Inc. which is a subsidiary of the Philippines largest food and beverage corporation, San Miguel Corporation.

History

San Miguel is known as one of the nine companies which separated from the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association in 1975. This was due to some issues related to dismay with the Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP). Due to this, the Philippine Basketball Association got formed, which was the first professional basketball league in Philippines.

San Miguel Beermen team

San Miguel won the PBA invitational tournament in 1982 and defeated the Crispa Redmanizers in almost three games. The head coach that time was Tommy Manotoc. The Rookie of the year was won by Marte Saidana. Norman Black got the Best import Award. Most probably Terry, Antero or another Saidana won the Rookie of the year award but he initiated a free for all against the South Korea team. Terry Saldana was taken out from the Rookie of the Award race by penalty.

Manotoc later on left to coach Crispa for the 1983 season and San Miguel team managed to win with just third place finish for the next two seasons. By 1985, Gold Eagle, (San Miguel another name) managed to change its name to Magnolia Quench Plus and despite their efforts of importing Norman Black, the team failed to enter the championship pursue.

By 1985, the team folded due to some political climatic conditions. Following its disbandment, former Magnolia players were absorbed by the new PBA team for the 1986 season. With its return, the team even included Elmer Reyes, Lim, Yves Dignadice and many other former players. Start of 1987 brought new hopes for the entire team. However, the prized catch of the team were former players, Abet Guidaben and Crispa. During this time, Norman Black began to coach the team. Magnolia finished in the third place in the Open and All Filipino Conferences. And by the Reinforced tournament, this team again reverted back to their initial name, San Miguel Beer.

San Miguel even won the 1988 PBA season and finished in the fourth place in the next conference. By 1989, the team began as one of the greatest season team in league history. Early 90s the team went title less for the next two seasons. But in 1992, they defeated Purefoods in seven of the games in order to capture the All Filipino Cup title. Ato Agustin won the Most Valuable Player Award that year. Till date the team has experienced many ups and downs in the seasons which brought them more together to play as best as they can.

2009-10 San Miguel Beermen season

The 2009-10 San Miguel Beermen season would be the 35th season of the franchise in the league. Its head coach is Siot Tanquincen.
